Everything you need to know about scanning a VIN, getting your free snapshot, and unlocking the full history report.

How Truvin works

1. Scan or enter a VIN. Point your camera at the VIN plate on the dashboard or door jamb. No account needed.

2. Get a free instant snapshot. You'll see the make, model, year, specs, open recalls, and an estimated market value, all pulled live from NHTSA.

3. Unlock the full report for $9.99, one time. That covers the title brand, salvage or junk status, an odometer check, and an accident indicator, sourced from NMVTIS through an approved reseller. It stays free to reopen from your Garage afterward.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account?

No. The free snapshot works without a sign-up, an email address, or any personal information.

Why does the paid report cost $9.99?

Most vehicle history services charge $30 to $45 for data that costs a fraction of that. We'd rather pass the savings on to you.

My VIN won't scan. What should I do?

Make sure the plate is well lit and all 17 characters are visible. You can also tap "Enter VIN manually" on the scan screen. It works just as well and only takes a few seconds.

I unlocked a report and it says no data was found. Can I get a refund?

Yes. All purchases are billed through the App Store, so refunds go through Apple's standard refund process at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Where does the data come from?

Free specs and recalls come from NHTSA, a U.S. government agency. Paid title and accident data comes from VinAudit, an NMVTIS-approved reseller. Truvin itself is not an NMVTIS data provider.

Is my data safe?

Truvin doesn't collect your name, location, or contacts, and it never stores your payment details. Our Privacy Policy has the full details.
